************** 10/03/08 1st period
The advise information genre. Dear Abby article titled “woman drowns in sorrow of man's drinking binges” - This article talks about a divorced women being tormented by her divorced husband. In the article the women explains that her husband comes to her home once every six months drunk and usually ends up arguing with her and becoming very angry. She wants to get her family together and get him to stop drinking but nothing seems to work. The response written said that reality was that her husband loved alcohol more than he did her. She said that the only way to solve the problem was to get him out of her life. She also talked about the harmful effects a drunkard could have on the kids. For the most part I agree with the response given. It is a sad thing but the man does apparently seem to love alcohol more than his wife. Any man that doesn’t love his wife enough to quit something as harmful as alcohol doesn’t deserve to be married at all. A man like that doesn’t deserve to have such wonderful blessing such as a wife or kids. A man has the responsibility to take care of his family – to protect them not destroy them! This man wasn’t ready for marriage. If the girl knew that he drank, even a little, before marriage the answer should have been no.
Dear Abby article titled “brother-in-law quick to move in after couple's separation” - This article talks about again a recently divorced man. He says that it has only been a few weeks and already his wife has slept with one other guy. He also says that his brother in law is becoming good “friends” with his wife. His brother spends more time with his kids then he himself. He talked to them about it and agreed he shouldn’t be there but they still continued it. The response to this letter was that the man no longer had any connection to his wife or kids and it wasn’t his right to control who went into their lives. She also suggested that he go to legal council to decide visitation rights. I would have responded a little differently. It is true that he cannot control who goes into his ex-wife’s life. It is a sad thing when you cannot see your kids regularly and it would be wise to seek legal council with that. Regarding his wife though, if she slept with another guy and is becoming fast friends with your brother of all people she may not have been a person you should have married in the first place. A marriage is founded on trust and apparently she wasn’t worthy of it. There is nothing you can do except get council legally.
